More Faith in Thee

This song helps us realize that if we focus on Him, the Savior, He will help us, sustain us and walk with us through the storm.

In 1996, I owned a computer but had no software to write music. So, I drew out each individual shaped note on a piece of lined paper, made specifically for music scores, and that's how the written form of "More Faith in Thee" took shape.

I thought it might be interesting for the reader to think about times "long ago" when this kind of creativity was the only option. With the help of Aneva Pierce, a member of Concordia Sacrae, this song was recreated using software so it would be easier to reproduce, read and perform.

ABOUT THE SONG

"Did you ever feel as though your whole world was falling apart or when every single aspect of it became a challenge? 1995 was a disastrous year for me in multiple ways. I lost my business, my father-in-law (whom I loved as my own father) passed to his reward, my family dealt with tremendous disappointment internally and some very good Christian friends seemed to abandon me in my time of need. I'm not trying to sound like a victim because I know that God provides and "never allows us to be tempted above what we are able to bare." (1 Corinthians 10:13) But is was a very tough year.

When I look at what was happening to me in the moment, I must admit that my faith was challenged. In many ways,I felt as though I had made a lot of progress in the last few years to become more of what I should be. But this dip in my faith was scary. I had recently taught a class on the Life of Christ and was reminded of the story of Peter when he, seeing Jesus afar off, stepped out of the boat in the middle of the storm and walked on the water toward his Lord.

In Matthew 14.29, Peter stepped out of the boat and onto the surface of the water so he could walk toward the Savior. When he kept his eyes on Jesus, he succeeded. But, when he looked around at the tumultuous sea surrounding him, he began to sink. In verse 30, Jesus admonished him by saying 'O ye of little faith, why did you doubt?' What a great lesson we can learn about how we should focus on the only thing around us that we can truly count on. May God teach us how to have more faith in Him.

'Sometimes I feel discouraged.' Do you ever feel as though you're 'losing all the ground you have gained'? This song helps us realize that if we focus on Him, the Savior, He will help us, sustain us and walk with us through the storm."
